first-letter

While looking for a “short-cut”, I found a good read on some CSS.
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/::first-letter. I wasn’t aware of ‘first-letter’ or ‘first-line’ and using the first-child just didn’t seem to get it right, plus I really DID NOT want to add tags to about 150 navigation elements. So, TADA! Enjoy.

The video is a quick but detailed explanation on possible implementations of icon fonts. http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/113-creating-and-using-a-custom-icon-font/

There’s a bit of help with the code on this page,  http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2013/04/how-to-turn-your-icons-into-a-web-font/

And just to play with the code, here’s a sandbox for icon fonts and some cool transitions.  http://css3please.com/.  Way cool!
